New Dates

We’ve added 2 new Stitch Like Lorina workshop dates to the programme:  Thursday 6 February and Thursday 27 February, both 1 – 3.30pm at Time and Tide.

Bring along a quote or use your own words to stitch your own Lorina Bulwer inspired sampler.  With Lisa Little, Curatorial Assistant, Costumes and Textiles.

The workshops cost £8.50 (or £7 if you’re a Museum Pass holder) which includes all materials.  Booking is essential – please telephone 01493 743943 to book your place.


We’re running these courses in association with Norfolk County Council Adult Education Services and Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind.  It is free to attend, but places must be booked – please telephone or text 07733 018250, leaving your name, contact number and which course you’d like to attend.

Mental Health Awareness – Tuesday 22 October, 10am – 1pm

A half-day course for people who’d like a better understanding of mental health issues.

Mental Health First Aid – Monday 4 – Tuesday 5 November, 10am – 4pm

A two-day course aimed at helping people procide initial support for someone suffering from mental ill health.  This is a certificated course.

A Story in 50 Words – Tuesday 11 February 2014, 10am – 4pm

Work with accomplished writer and tutor Meirion Jordan to learn the skills needed to create a story with impact and intensity, taking inspiration from the exhibition.


Fridays, 11.30am.  £2.60 for talk only, or free with museum admission.

From Rags to Riches – Friday 6 November 11am – 4pm

Make your own rag-rug whilst learning about the time honoured technique of mending and making do.

Quick Quilting or Patchy Patchwork – Friday 17 January 2014, 11am – 4pm

Discover the art of speed stitching  and make a quilt quickly or a patchy patchwork!

Felt-It – Wednesday 19 February 2014, 11am – 4pm

Using wool, a tutu, soap and bubble wrap, make felt to fashion into fabulous forms.

Bring your queries and unfinished textile projects along for advice and support from our expert team of costume makers.

Stitchers in Time – Friday 1 November, 11am – 3pm

Explore the history of stitching from book binding to sail making.  View textiles from the musuem collection and try your hand at oakum picking, string making and nautical knots.

Banter over Bunting – Saturday 1 March, 11am – 4pm

Embellish your own pennant and pay homage to an era of street parties and coronations.

Look Good, Fake it  – Saturday 1 March, 2.30pm

Young people from Great Yarmouth High School and Great Yarmouth College have customised second-hand clothing to create maritime inspired outfits.  See the results in this exciting fashion show.
